"We declare that the splendor of the world has been enriched by a new beauty: the beauty of speed. A racing automobile with its bonnet adorned with great tubes like serpents with explosive breath...a roaring motor car which seems to run on machine-gun fire, is more beautiful than the Victory of Samothrace."--F.T. Marinetti, Le Figaro, 20 February 1909.
Tullio Crali, Futurist, "La Forza della Curva" ca.1920
In the autumn of 2017 I expanded my interest in the art world (Old Masters and Classic Modern) to include the aesthetic appeal and intellectual stimulation of high-end engineering, specifically that of the world of European automobiles, aerospace development and high-speed rail. In the organization of my consulting, I approached magnetic levitation ('Maglev') rail companies, hydrogen fuel cell car designers, a few legendary European car brands and wrote on the historic personalities of these as well. In this endeavor I became a finalist in a Bugatti North America public relations design competition, the creative strategy of which may be seen by clicking on the logo of that brand, below. This work eventually led to a full-time position with Virgin Hyperloop One, then chaired by entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson based upon a technology by M. Elon Musk. This was the company that moved me (and a temperamental vintage Jaguar sedan) to Los Angeles. I regard advanced engineering as a form of high art. I find that the Futurist movement (ca. 1905-1925) in Italian art best typifies this spirit. Please seethe following page for writings and reflections on the téchne of high-tech..
